week 3, tuesday, a bit after motive
[With her job done to make sure Minato isn't going to die (probably) and no one else attempting to murder the Conductor, Ris is free to continue on with the one thread she'd had to let drop earlier.
She makes her way to the apartment car, to Mithos' door, and raises her hand to rap her knuckles against it.
There's a part of her that's worried she'll be turned away, but even so, she has to try. If she's learned anything about Mithos over the course of these few weeks, it's that he has an unfortunate tendency to recede into himself when he actually needs to reach out.
Well, it's fine. She can take some initiative, at least. Mithos is not the first person she's known with poor self-care tactics, after all, and she's far happier to go out of her way for Mithos than she ever was for that man.
Having knocked, she just waits for any response. She's not going to just burst in.]

Mithos hears the rap on the door. His first thought was to simply call out and ask who was there but ... he didn't feel like being all too vocal right now. So instead Ris will hear some shifting on the other side before a click on the lock and the door opening lightly. ]
... Ris.
[ He'll actually open the door enough for her to come in when he sees who is there. He doesn't say much more, so it's a silent invitation. ]
no subject
She waits for the door to close – she'll close it herself if he doesn't, but she has a feeling he will. She may be here to force him to open up at least a little, but she won't deny him his privacy from everyone else.]
I realized we hadn't really spoken since the trial. I... imagine there are some things weighing on you.
[She's at least got some idea that something Weird is going on with memories, never mind the motive and, well... everything about the trial, too.]

Once the door is closed Mithos will turn to Ris. His hand moves to hold his other arm as he nods. ]
Y-Yeah ... I imagine it's the same for ... many others here, as well.
[ in .. some way, shape, or form. Having been in his room he doesn't really know how many people felt after yesterday morning and ... he left before he really saw anyone's reactions to the motive. He knows that Ris took time to herself after the trial and Mithos respected that which is why he allowed her the privacy.
But for him it's much more than just the trial. In fact the trial almost seemed like the distant memory, already. ]

[Ris was out there long enough to know that no one is taking the motive well, if nothing else.]
But they aren't the ones I'm worried about.
no subject
You're ... worried...?
[ Her actually being worried for some reason something he considered. ]
no subject
Of course. You're clearly not doing well. It's only natural to be concerned about someone important to you when they display signs of distress, isn't it?
no subject
[ That mean he's ... oh. ]
It seems you're ... doing better. I was concerned, myself.

I still have some ways to go before I am back to 100%, as it were, but... it wouldn't do to have me sitting around being weepy forever when I can still make myself useful here. Perhaps not as a "witch's apprentice," but not everything needs to be so fantastical, I don't think.
Just being "someone that matters" is more than enough for me.
[She lets her lips quirk up, just briefly, into a bit of a bittersweet smile. She won't even rank herself as "important" to Mithos, because how could she be? But she matters at least enough for him to let her in, right?]
Which is why I'm here. I won't allow myself to break my promise just because it's easier to wallow.
no subject
... Not that Mithos has it in him to agree when he's been doing the same since Monday morning. But could ... at least not break the promise, right. He matters to her and ... she matters to him so it's only .. fair. ]
I ... didn't want to hear everyone's reactions to the motive. That's... that's why I left.
no subject
...You did the right thing. It's terribly cruel, and the reactions were about what I'm sure you expected. I'm sure you have enough on your plate just worrying about your own.
[A soft sigh. She's... not really sure how to bring up the thought that's nagging at the back of her mind, but here goes nothing...]
...is it just the motive, though? I... know some of us had some strange dreams and found our memories... altered [restored] when we awoke...
no subject
[ Then yeah. They were likely what he expected them to be. People getting angry over their loved ones in such a terrible situation. And that ... wasn't something he needed. Not when ...
Ris brings up memories and all the effort Mithos was using to try and keep himself intact just ... collapses. He starts to tremble and his arms shift so he's hugging himself tightly, gripping the sleeves on his arms. ]
M... Martel ... she... she's...
[ No more comes after that. Just tears and sobs. There's a small whine from Friender from beside Mithos' bed. ]
and here is the point at which we go from cute to "ohhhh no."
Her gaze casts downward for a moment as she takes a breath to collect herself, then she approaches Mithos.
She puts a hand gently on his shoulder to try to gently guide him to sit back down on the bed – in a state like this, there's no point him him wasting the effort on standing if he doesn't have to.
Once that's done, she sits down beside him. This time, she doesn't bother to ask before trying to pull him into a hug, although she hesitates briefly in uncertainty.
What else is there to do or say right now?
Even so, she's already racking her brain, trying to put together bits and pieces of research she's overseen in her time with the doctor. Souls are far harder to destroy than bodies, and if nothing else, Ris knows they're transferable... if they can get out of here, then maybe there might just be a way to fix things...]
silently screams it into the void....
The moment he's pulled in for a hug he turns so he could wrap his arms around and cling as he, once again, sobs into her shoulder. This time though, he clings to her shirt tightly as if his life depended on it.
It takes... a while, but eventually the heart-wrenching sobs quiet and the grip will loosen. After a while longer when he can speak... ]
I'll never forgive humans for this.
[ The quiet and hoarse from all the tears. But even moreso it's so bitter and cold the words. ]
w e l p
Every sob does wrench her heart. Why does he have to keep going through so much pain? It would be one thing if it were her, but Mithos has done nothing to deserve all this...
She can feel tears stinging at her own eye as well, each quiver against her hammering in just how powerless she is to do anything else to help.
She hates this, every second of it, but not for anything Mithos himself has done. So when he finally speaks up, her voice comes back freezing-cold in kind.]
All they've ever done is hurt you. Why should you forgive them?
screams louder
And with that Mithos laughs bitterly before he answers. ]
You're right. They don't deserve my forgiveness. They'll never change nor will it bring her back.
[ ... ]
If only I could make them pay for what they have done.
literally the last person on this train who should have had this talk with mithos, right here
Perhaps not here, not yet. But don't give up hope yet.
If we can survive this, regain what we've lost and get back to where you belong... it may be possible. With time, with research and training, with perseverance.
To make them suffer, make them pay for how they've wronged you... and return her to your side.
I will have to do more research myself, I only know the basic theories... but there may be a way to give her soul a different vessel. I won't make you any promises, not yet, but...
I'll do all I can, either way. Even if, in the end, all I can do is make them suffer that much more.
stares at him and ris stares at mithos' last words who allowed these two to connect
Don't give up hope... there's a way to bring her back ... and make them pay for what they've done. He's quiet for a moment to take in all her words before he speaks. ]
You're right. There must be a way I can bring her back and have the human pay for what they have done. No matter how long it takes ... we have time.
[ With the power of his Cruxis Crystal at home he has all the time in the world ... Even if right now whenever he tries to think of something his head responds with nothing but a headache.
... No matter. Even if he can't think of anything... and even if Ris can't make that promise yet they'll find a way. And maybe... ]
Maybe we can ... even make a world where my sister and I can live in peace. The world we live in now doesn't deserve my sister in it, after all. To change the world so that we aren't discriminated against... that's all she wanted. That was her last wish.
[ ... ]
Until then, I'll at least have you right?
us. we did.
We can. Just as soon as we make it out of here. [She'll even drop the "if" of the whole situation. In the name of hope.] Until then, until you can see her again, we'll just have to celebrate her life as best as we can. Try our best to make the world what she always wanted it to be for her return.
[And as for that last bit, her gaze softens.]
Of course you will. I told you, didn't I? You won't ever be rid of me. I don't break my promises.
crying......
That's right. The moment we make it out of here we'll begin. I'm sure there are things we can do to make it happen. So when she does come back it's to her liking.
[ And his nods, his own gaze softening ]
Good. I don't plan on breaking my promise to you, either. Whatever we do, Ris, we'll do it together.
[cat drowning in tears emote]
[And to that last part... well, way to get her cheeks flushing a little, Mithos.
With how pale she is, this really just serves to make her look a little more alive, but it's definitely noticeable.]
"Whatever we do, we'll do it together," huh? Ehe... I like the sound of that.
